Copper River Nouveau, an event that has become renowned for its decadent food, fun entertainment and festive atmosphere, is the main fundraising event for the Prince William Sound Science Center. It is attended by people from Cordova and throughout the State of Alaska and abroad. Held annually at one of Cordova’s best waterfront banquet venues, we bring in a top chef from Anchorage, who designs a gourmet dinner menu, featuring locally caught, Copper River salmon. Each course is carefully matched with a delightful wine selection. Aside from the delicious dinner, other major components of this event are the auction and entertainment, often one in the same. During the appetizer segment, guests mix and mingle while participating in a silent auction. A live auction later takes place, often starting between the entrée and dessert courses. Entertainment is provided by local talent, the lively auctioneers and emcee. Auction items can be previewed during a Gallery Night held the evening before the Copper River Nouveau dinner. This event is a fun-filled opportunity to support the Prince William Sound Science Center. Proceeds benefit the education programs and other general programs. The dinner event tickets are $125 per person. Advance tickets are necessary. Auction Preview |

Raised in King Salmon, Alaska on subsistence salmon and wild game, Chef Hoogerhyde came to understand the importance of properly cooking and preparing food. The freshness and quality of that time in his life is etched into his passion for cooking. Upon graduating from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon he returned to define his future with food. Working as a Sous Chef at The Marx Bros. Café focused him back into the style and quality of food that brought him to return to Alaska. Continuing on to The Crow’s Nest as Chef de Cuisine, he kindled his passion for culinary exploration and excelled in hand crafted quality, ultimately obtaining the AAA Four Diamond award. In the continuous pursuit of his professional goals, Chef Hoogerhyde became the Executive Chef at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown where he headed the opening culinary team. He received Marriott’s International “Award of Excellence” as well as the local American Culinary Federation chapter’s “Chef of the Year” award. The current chapter of his life brings him to ORSO, an independent restaurant that has all the philosophies and values he holds true. Working there returns him back to that place in his memory where he first learned and began to understand food. His philosophy is “you’re only as good as the last meal you cooked”. |
