About photo

Originally dubbed "First Fish Celebration" in 2000, this event used to coordinate with the first opener of the Copper River fisheries in mid-May. Now hosted in June, the annual Copper River Nouveau has expanded to become Cordova's premier dining experience and fundraiser.

The focus of this event has always been a celebration of Science, Cordova and Wild Copper River Salmon. It combines gourmet food with opportunities to meet important leaders, scientists and educators, fishermen, and others dedicated to maintaining our renewable natural systems through science and education.

Notable guests in past years have included: U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, our Honorary Host since 2003; State Representative Bill Thomas; Phil Mundy, Director, Auke Bay Lab; Jim Balsiger, Acting Assistant Administrator of Fisheries, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service; Denis Wiesenburg, Dean, UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; Arliss Sturgulewski, former Alaska State Senator.

Corporate and individual sponsorships, a silent and live auction, and dinner ticket sales help raise funds for the research and education programs at the Prince William Sound Science Center. Every year, we strive to increase our net profit, and we have yet to be disappointed. In 2010, we raised a net profit of $43,000.
